Photographing birds in Costa Rica – It just keeps getting better!

2015 marked Natures Photo Adventures 10th anniversary. During those ten years we visited Costa Rica with groups of bird loving photographers more than any other destination. It is, without a doubt, one of my favorite places in the world for avian photography.

It is easy at times to become very comfortable with a place you know very well and to keep visiting the same places to photograph birds simply because you have had a lot of success at them in the past. Sometimes hidden treasures can be found when you search outside of your comfort zone.

For 2016, Natures Photo Adventures has added two brand new wonderful destinations to our Costa Rica itinerary. We have kept our two favorite locations from previous workshops and now we have what we believe to be an unbeatable Costa Rica tour when it comes to variety and accessibility to different species of birds, comfort of accommodations and quality of dining.

In addition to the destinations that we visit on this workshop, we will also have great scenery and landscapes while moving from destination to destination. The people of Costa Rica are always friendly and welcoming. The country is safe and has a solid and sound infrastructure. Put all of these factors together and it is tough to top Costa Rica as a workshop destination.

Some of the beautiful species that we see and photograph up close include the awesome and always popular Resplendent Quetzal, the Collared Aracari, Scarlett Macaws, Fiery- Throated Hummingbird, Brown Hooded Parrot, King Vulture, and numerous colorful tanagers. Some of the shooting is done in beautiful gardens from the comfort of a deck with fresh Costa Rican coffee. Other shooting is done on farmlands and along trails. We also will be having a lot of fun while photographing hummingbirds at our mutli-flash set ups to freeze the motions of these incredible flying jewels.

New to bird photography? Not a problem. Our workshops are teaching workshops where you, the customer, always comes first. From beginner to accomplished photographer, everyone is welcome! Come and experience the birds of Costa Rica with us and you will leave with tons of photos, new friends and a wonderful adventure and experience. Looking for other locations with hummingbirds, you may also enjoy Trinidad Tobago, and Peru. Check out the Costa Rica Video!

Bird Photography Tip:

When you are faced with a scene where there are more than one bird in the image that you want to capture, always focus on the eyes of the main subject in the frame. Watch the Birds of Costa Rica Video below:
