Why use RAW versus JPEGIf you are looking to re-sell or publish your photographs to other companies or upload images to photo contests be sure to shoot with RAW and not JPEG.

Shooting in RAW allows your camera’s memory to store more information about your image. Hence, more information = greater detail in the image. There is a setting on your camera to shoot both RAW and JPEG however it is not recommended to have both saving at the same time as you will quickly run of space on your memory card. The last thing you want to have happen is the “Card Full” blinking away when you are in that moment of capturing one of the best wildlife images of all time. We also like to save the original RAW image in a separate folder. We then edit the RAW image in Photoshop, saving the finished image with its new name in another folder. This allows you to open the original image later as some publishers and stock agencies want to see the original. In addition you are available to change the editing perhaps a different crop creating a new image to share with friends and family. Please note you will have to edit your image and save ready for web turning it into a JPEG or TIFF for website upload or sending to others via email.

Happy Shooting!
