Packing Tips for Travel in Alaska and BC


Although Alaska in in the US and BC is located in Canada, the weather in both regions is similar. If you are travelling to Alaska or BC for some wildlife viewing or action packed grizzly bear photography, be sure to pack rainwear for both you and your camera.

If you are travelling by float plane or helicopter pack as efficiently as possible. The average weight restrictions are approximately 60 Lbs total per person including camera gear and luggage.

Multi-layer waterproof jacket. The weather can be very warm with only a light sweater required to cool with a fleece. Weather can change quickly from sunny to rainy. Waterproof jackets are highly recommended. If you are wildlife photographer or wildlife videographer, purchasing a camo or dark green or brown outfit will increase your success.

Hat, sunglasses, fleece sweater, light gloves

Most lodges provide waders. If not, with the tall grasses and wet weather you might want to bring your own. Be sure to purchase the lightest ones possible.

Camera Equipment recommendations:

100-400mm lens and or 500mm lens, tele-converter.

Wide Angel Lens for landscapes

Macro lens if you are interested in taking wildflowers, wild mushrooms and other little gems.

Tripod

Memory cards

Rainwear for your camera/ video equipment.
