Recommended Winnipeg Day Trip

Natures Photo Adventures decided to scout out a Wild Timber Wolf and Lynx Adventure in northern Ontario, Canada. I visited the Fort Wyte Alive, in Winnipeg prior to heading off following day for the main wolf scouting event. Photographing and viewing a herd of Bison on the prairies was on my photo list. Although the majority of the 300,000 bison currently left are held in captivity, they are beautiful to see amongst the winter landscapes. Unfortunately, to my disappointment the bison were too far to capture a really good image, even with my 400mm. Fortunately, there are landscape photo opportunities, some birding and bird photo opportunities, a learning center full of animals such as Lynx, Polar Bear, Black Bear, Timber Wolf and more. It is still a fun day to practice your camera settings. Watch the bison, learn some Canadian history and enjoy the nature trails. Just when I was leaving, I looked to my right and saw two deer come out from the bush. I reminder anything can happen when you least expect it, wildlife is after all is wild and unpredictable. If you are in Winnipeg, one of our meeting destinations for the Polar Bear Workshop or hopefully the new and exciting Timber Wolf Photography Workshop, take half day and check out Fort Wytte Alive. Located 20 minutes from Winnipeg airport hotels $25 cab ride each way.

Recommended equipment: 500mm for bison head shot, 100-400mm for group photograph

Winter -wide angle lens for landscapes

There is a cafe offering healthy vegeterian, vegan food options as well as bison burgers, chicken salad sandwiches.
